The Anti-Life Equation (2015)

In DC Comics, the Anti-Life Equation is a mathematical proof of the futility of living. Here, it is translated into homage of the Marxist interpretation of the generic, working class urban citizen.
The idea of ritualistic 9-5 white or pink collar jobs which elicit no passion are commonplace with adults that have graduated from compulsory education, be it secondary school, polytechnic, junior college, or university. This collection is inspired by the drudgery of the routine, never doing much more with one’s life after settling into the system of work.

In a man-made environment, one would think that humans would flourish, but with the toll of time, workers lose the allowance of experiencing life as it is, without dreariness and falling into a mundane, dull routine. Hardly being fulfilled in other ways attainable without the stress of money, work, and obligations, the generic citizen waits his/her entire life to accomplish something other than pushing papers, only to realise at the very end that their life has hardly been spent living.

Proportions are stretched and a juxtaposition of organic shapes and rigid uniform-inspired clothing make up most of The Anti-Life Equation. Iconic workwear elements like suit jackets, dress shirts, and pencil skirts are redone in different proportions and materials in showing how the spirit of humanity struggles to co-habit with the otherwise strict austerity of the workplace environment. A sense of deconstruction throughout each garment is a nod to the deterioration and dulling of the human senses in the daily grind of working life.

Lost Lands (2013)

Picture
Picture

Lost lands are regions that have subsided into the sea as a result of catastrophic geological phenoma or slowly rising sea levels since the end of the last Ice Age, leaving behind only a few traces or legends.
Imagining a place after the Earth has succumbed to the rising sea levels caused by global warming is a strange thing. Has mankind found a way to survive underwater?

Inspired by coral reefs and the martian structure of deep sea geology, this collection ventures into exploring the possibilities of a post-apocalyptic world where the entire planet is submerged after severe flooding. The intense colours are a key point- despite being underwater, aquatic life is usually vividly coloured.
There are strange places in the seas, and here I show the futuristic displacement and devastation of humans, bringing the idea of the unknown and strange into a colony of adapted humans in this collection.
